Wolves will be pushing for their first win of the Premier League season against Burnley

Paul Merson has given his verdict on how the match will unfold, as Vitor Pereira and his side hope to lift themselves up from the bottom of the table.

Wolves have lost six of their eight games so far this season and are the only club still yet to bank a win. They will leapfrog into 19th place if they can secure a win this weekend and push West Ham into the basement spot, following their seventh loss of the campaign on Friday against Leeds United.

Paul Merson makes Wolves result prediction against Burnley

Wolves will host Burnley at Molineux at 2pm on Sunday. The Clarets enter the clash sitting in 17th place, with seven points in the bank from two wins and a draw so far.

A win for the Old Gold could even move them into 18th place, should Nottingham Forest fail to pick up a positive result against Bournemouth.

Making his latest predictions for Sportskeeda, Merson has described the looming clash between Wolves and Burnley as a ‘massive’ occasion for both clubs.

“How do I even define this game? Burnley got a big result last weekend, when they beat Leeds. Wolves lost to Sunderland, but I actually think they did alright in that game. If I'm not wrong, Wolves had 16 shots but not one clear-cut chance, they dominated that game,” the pundit started.

“I expect Wolves to win because they desperately need a result in this game. If they don't get three points, they are in serious trouble with the fixtures also not being the best from next week.”

Paul Merson makes bold Wolves relegation prediction

Despite the pressure resting on Wolves’ shoulders ahead of their clash with Burnley, Merson believes he has ‘seen enough’ from them to be convinced that they will once again avoid suffering relegation at the end of the season.

“At this moment in time, I don't see a lot wrong with Wolves,” Merson went on. “Their only worrying performance was the game against Leeds at home, which they lost 3-1. I know they haven't won a game yet, but I just think they will be fine at the end of the season. I have seen enough from Wolves to think they can avoid relegation!”

He then went on to predict a 2-0 win for Wolves, which would take them above West Ham in the Premier League table and off the bottom spot.

Chris Sutton has also backed Wolves to come out on top this weekend. Writing for his latest BBC Sport column, he said: “Wolves have to win eventually and at home to Burnley feels like the game it really has to happen for them - their fans will definitely be thinking that.

“All things considered, it would be easy to go for a draw, but I am going to back Wolves to break their duck.”
