NFL insider provides injury update on Lamar Jackson ahead of Week 8

Lamar Jackson suffered a hamstring strain in Week 4 against the Kansas City Chiefs and has been sidelined since, missing the last two games and the Ravens’ bye week. The injury first forced Baltimore to turn to backups Cooper Rush and then Tyler Huntley, as the offense struggled to find rhythm without its star.

The latest update reveals Jackson has been ruled out for Week 8 against the Chicago Bears. Despite returning to practice this week and being listed as a full participant on Friday, Ian Rapoport reported Jackson only took scout-team reps and remains “definitely one week away.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter adds Jackson “will remain sidelined” for Sunday’s matchup, with the team officially naming him unavailable. Coach John Harbaugh summed up Jackson’s practice status simply: “it was good.”

Jackson’s early-season numbers underscore what Baltimore is missing. In four starts he has completed a career-high 71.6% of his passes for 869 yards, 10 touchdowns and one interception, while adding 166 yards and a rushing score. He led the Ravens to their lone win (Week 2) and remains one of the team’s cornerstones, but the staff is intent on not rushing his return.

With Jackson out, Tyler ‘Snoop’ Huntley, recently signed from the practice squad, will start Sunday against the Bears. Huntley replaces Cooper Rush, who started the Week 5 and 6 losses. Huntley saw action late against the Rams (10-of-15 for 68 yards and 23 rushing yards) and will get the nod as Baltimore tries to stop a four-game skid.

The Ravens hope Jackson’s timeline holds, he’s expected to return Thursday night against the Miami Dolphins on October 30. For now, Baltimore will prioritize a full recovery over a risky early comeback as it chases a much-needed turnaround. Fans and front office will watch his rehab closely today.
