Injuries continue to pile up in the Green Bay Packers’ wide receiver room. Jayden Reed remains on injured reserve following successful surgery on both a broken clavicle and a Jones fracture, while Dontayvion Wicks is out due to a calf injury, and Matthew Golden is questionable after popping up on Friday’s injury report because of a hip injury. Meanwhile, the Packers currently have three healthy receivers on the active roster, Romeo Doubs, Malik Heath, and Savion Williams, far from ideal.
The good news is their explosive receiver is inching closer to a return.

The Packers designated Christian Watson for return in Week 6 as he continues to recover from last season’s ACL tear. For the third straight week, the explosive weapon was limited in practice, resulting in him being listed as questionable. Watson said during the week that he planned to play, but the team clarified that the medical team must clear him, and a roster move must be made by 3:00 PM CT.

On X, the Packers announced they have activated Christian Watson from the PUP list. The plan is for Watson to make his regular-season debut against the Pittsburgh Steelers, almost ten months after suffering an ACL injury. Also, the team did not elevate any wide receivers from the practice squad for gameday, suggesting Matthew Golden may play, or if anything, Bo Melton could see some snaps at wide receiver.

It’s highly unlikely that Christian Watson will have a full workload against the Pittsburgh Steelers and may be on a pitch count for the first month or so. For reference, Stefon Diggs, who returned from last season’s ACL tear in under nine months, averaged 55% of snaps in his first seven games. Therefore, Watson could be utilized primarily on obvious passing downs and gradually increase his reps.
