An emotionally drained Bruno Guimaraes gave his thoughts on an “unbelievable” afternoon of football as Newcastle United claimed three points at the death in a 2-1 victory against Fulham.
The Toon started positively and went in the lead as Jacob Murphy made the most of a buildup error from Calvin Bassey. But **Fulham**fought admirably, changing the composition of their attack at half time to include **Kevin**wide left and Alex Iwobi central, and levelled with a header from Sasa Lukic.
Guimaraes was not about to give up as the hosts were eager to start rewarding their enterprise in the Premier League with more points. He blazed a header over the bar only minutes after the equaliser and skewed another shot wide of the post, probing with his passing in a more advanced position.
In the end, he bagged all three points as he followed up on a finish from substitute William Osula. It was a massive result, and the club captain admitted he will need a little time to rest and recover.
"I feel unbelievable. We were very tired from Wednesday's game and I think we had to learn how to finish the game.
*"I'm happy in the end we scored a goal. The last few games we have been punished at the end - by Arsenal, Liverpool.*
"William Osula, he came, he shot and I was ready for the rebound in my 150th start for this club. Now I just want to rest for a bit because I am very tired.
"My whole family is here, my mum, my kids, my wife so to score a goal like that is very special at the Gallowgate End. It is a very good moment.
"We cannot play the perfect game every time but we need to find the three points and we did this today. Very pleased for everyone. This is the Newcastle I know, we fight until the end."
