Baltimore Ravens Break Silence on Lamar Jackson Controversy

Just over 24 hours ago, Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh had fans convinced Lamar Jackson would be the team’s starting quarterback against the Chicago Bears this weekend after revealing the quarterback was a “full participant” in practice.

A day later, though, the Ravens were forced to offer several clarifications regarding his playing status following a report from NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, who revealed the team intended to start quarterback Tyler Huntley instead.

Jackson, who has missed nearly a month with a hamstring injury, was, in fact, a full participant in Ravens practice…but not with the starting offense. After initially listing Jackson as a full participant, the Ravens changed his practice designation.

“There has been an update to Lamar Jackson's Friday practice and game status. Jackson was downgraded from a full practice participant to limited, and he has been ruled out for tomorrow's game vs. Chicago,” the team said in a statement.

The change sparked confusion from those in the NFL media space, with reporters openly questioning if the league should investigate the last-minute change.

Not long later, the Ravens offered a new statement regarding the decision.

“Lamar Jackson was present for and participated fully in our entire Friday practice ahead of Sunday’s game against the Bears,” a statement from the team read. “Upon further evaluation today and after conferring with the league office, because Lamar didn’t take starter reps in practice, we updated our report to reflect his practice participation.”

The NFL is reportedly looking into the incident.
