NFL Announces Massive Punishment for Buccaneers RB Rachaad White

After reviewing each penalty call from Week 7 of the 2025 NFL season, the league released its weekly list of fines on Saturday afternoon.

The list featured prominent names like Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens, Kansas City Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy, Seattle Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith Njigba, New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo and more - but no player received a larger punishment than Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Rachaad White.

The NFL hit White with a $46, 371 fine for illegal use of the helmet.

During the first quarter of Monday night’s primetime matchup against the Detroit Lions, the veteran ball-carrier lowered his helmet and struck a defender on a run up the middle of the field.

The first-offense fine for illegal use of the helmet is $23,186. The fine jumps to $46, 371 for a second offense.

White has been the Buccaneers’ primary ball-carrier for each of the team’s last three games. Second-year star running back Bucky Irving has been out since suffering foot and shoulder injuries in a Week 4 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Irving has already been ruled out for Sunday’s Week 8 matchup against the New Orleans Saints, opening the door for White to make yet another start.

Through the first seven games of his fourth NFL season with the Buccaneers, White has 252 rushing yards, 91 receiving yards and four rushing touchdowns. In Monday night’s 24-9 loss to the Lions, he led the team with just 38 yards on 10 carries.

The Buccaneers are 5-2 to open up the 2025 NFL season, leading the NFC South division. Following Sunday’s Week 8 matchup against the division-rival Saints, Baker Mayfield and his Tampa Bay squad will enter their Week 9 bye.

Sunday’s contest will kickoff at 4:05 p.m. ET from New Orleans’ Caesars Superdome.
