With a 5-2 record, the Denver Broncos should be exploring ways to improve their roster at the NFL trade deadline as they make a push to win the AFC West.
According to a rumor from The Athletic's Dianna Russini, it appears they are trying to do that and one position the Broncos are looking to improve is tight end.
"The Broncos are monitoring the tight end market," Russini reported on Saturday.
The Broncos made a significant addition at the position during the offseason, when Denver signed Evan Engram to a two-year, $23 million deal. Through the six games Engram has played in, he has tallied 22 catches for 179 yards and one touchdown.
Despite that move, it would appear the Broncos aren't completely content with what they're getting out of the position. Whether that's because of Engram or the guys behind him remains to be seen.
When it comes to Engram, he is one-dimensional. The veteran tight end is no doubt a plus pass-catcher, but he is sorely lacking as a blocker. Perhaps the Broncos want to pair Engram with another tight end that can do a little bit of both.
If that's the case, two tight ends the Broncos should have their eye on are David Njoku of the Cleveland Browns and Mark Andrews of the Baltimore Ravens.
Andrews and Njoku can both block and would give Bo Nix another much-needed veteran pass-catcher who can make an impact in what is an unproven and inconsistent group overall.
Sportskeeda's Tony Pauline reported that Andrews could be moved at the deadline, and with the Ravens sitting at 1-5 and Andrews being on the last year of his deal, it stands to reason they might move on from him.
Baltimore already has two young tight ends behind Andrews in Isaiah Likely and Charlie Kolar, which makes an Andrews trade even more possible.
Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reported earlier this month that the Browns are not looking to trade Njoku, but she added that was the case with Joe Flacco and Greg Newsome before both were ultimately moved.
We'll see if the Broncos end up doing anything ahead of the Nov. 4 trade deadline, but if it's a tight end they're looking for, a trade with Baltimore for Andrews or Cleveland for Njoku both make sense.
