“Tez Johnson Is A Great Player”
October 25th, 2025
Rookie receiver Tez Johnson.
Joe is impressed by how many accomplished NFL players have fallen for Tez Johnson.
The Bucs’ seventh-round pick rookie receiver has 10 catches for 170 yards and 2 touchdowns.
That’s a nice start, and for a seventh-rounder, it’s very special. Johnson’s numbers would be even better if Baker Mayfield didn’t overthrow him on a bomb early this season.
Still, Johnson is raw and clearly learning, especially when it comes to the playbook and route running.
It’s all expected. What wasn’t expected is how quickly he’s opened eyes.
“Tez johnson needs the ball more and he needs to play more,” said Hall of Fame cornerback Rondé Barber this week.
Barber’s words matched the comments of potential future Hall of Fame running back LeSean “Shady” McCoy, who says the Bucs need to take more advantage of Johnson’s special skill set.
On Tuesday, four-time Pro Bowl guard Richie Incognito says the jury is in. “Tez Johnson is a great player,” he told The Arena — Gridiron this week.
Barber’s comments came on the WFLA show that bears his name; McCoy’s take was on Speakeasy, where he was very emphatic about the talent and juice Johnson and fellow Bucs rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka provide.
Joe is very intrigued to see how Johnson develops with more playing time, which he’ll get with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Jalen McMillan gone for weeks.
The Bucs’ 2025 draft class has had a heck of a start.
