Looking ahead to Spurs vs Nets in clash of NBA's youngest teams

San Antonio's third game of the season will be against the team trying to steal their swag. (The Brooklyn Nets really could have thought of another color scheme, but imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I suppose.) Unfortunately for them, they can't copy the success of the Spurs, as they enter the Frost Bank Center with a 0-2 record.

The Spurs have won their last three games against the lesser of the two New York teams and will look to make it four in a row after [knocking off Zion Williamson](https://airalamo.com/spurs-proved-drastically-important-point-decisive-win-over-pelicans) and the New Orleans Pelicans in overtime. So far, the guys have blended their youth and vets well, and their hunger to win has bled onto the floor.

Their opponent can't say the same. The Nets are the youngest team in the league, and it's going to be a struggle all year for them. Through two games, BK looks to be an average offense with a porous defense. The Silver and Black can take advantage of both.

Beating the Nets should be fairly easy

--------------------------------------

The catch-22 to this is that it will only be easy if the Spurs play hard and do what they're supposed to do. They found themselves in a dogfight against the Pelicans when they should have just smacked them, but they couldn't knock down an outside shot, and they turned over the ball way too much (18). We'd all like to see them shoot lights out, but if they just keep their turnovers down, they should be fine.

The Nets will be bringing a team still trying to find their identity. They drafted a league-leading five players in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft and kept them all. During the offseason, they traded Cam Johnson for Michael Porter Jr., so they have some firepower, but not enough of it.

Their other best player is Cam Thomas, and based on how negotiations played out over the summer, they didn't even want to give him a big contract. The talks between his camp and the franchise dragged, and he ended up taking a one-year deal for $6 million. It's not the greatest dynamic, and they probably aren't trying to be. I can smell a tank season incoming for Brooklyn.

On top of their other roster shortcomings, they're bringing another short crew of players. To be fair, everyone is short compared to Victor Wembanyama, but it's more pronounced for some teams. The Nets have one seven-footer, and he's a rookie. The rest of their guys are 6'11" and under.

That doesn't necessarily mean that Vic will have another night like he did against the Mavericks. AS the Pelicans showed, there are ways to disrupt the giant with smaller players. But their game plan still [resulted in 29 points on 57% shooting,](https://airalamo.com/deja-vu-strikes-spurs-fans-wembanyama-robbed-amid-second-monster-night) and they had better defenders than Brooklyn does. If everything goes according to plan, this should be the Spurs' second blowout win of the season.
