Giants rookie Cam Skattebo takes another financial blow from the NFL

Cam Skattebo’s rookie season with the New York Giants has been memorable for all the right reasons, but his wallet might disagree. Earlier this week, the running back received a $15,000 fine from the NFL for conduct detrimental to the league after entering the team’s medical tent to check on quarterback Jaxson Dart.

The incident occurred when Dart clutched his head following a sack by Patrick Johnson that sent him tumbling into Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Azeez Ojulari. Dart had to exit for concussion evaluation, and Skattebo followed him into the tent. The rookie kept his response brief after the fine was announced, choosing not to elaborate on the situation.

However, Saturday brought another financial hit for the fifth-round draft pick.

The NFL handed down an additional $6,157 fine for unnecessary roughness, specifically citing “striking/kicking/tripping/kneeing” during a fourth-quarter sequence with 4:56 remaining on the clock.

The penalty stemmed from his effort to block a blitz that Alex Singleton disrupted, a play that ended with a Jaxson Dart interception. Officials did not throw a flag during the live action, but the league reviewed the play postgame and issued the fine anyway.

Two game day fines for Giants from last Sunday in Denver:

Cam Skattebo was fined $6,157 for unnecessary roughness (striking, kicking, tripping, kneeing) in the fourth quarter.

Tyrone Tracy was fined $5,731 for unnecessary roughness (use of the helmet) in the first quarter.…

Before the 2025 NFL season kicked off, Cam Skattebo signed a four-year, $5.27 million contract with the Giants. He quickly won over the fan base with his personality and play, sparking talk of potential endorsement opportunities.

Yet the early excitement has come with an unexpected cost, more than $21,000 in fines across just a few days.

Despite the financial setbacks, Skattebo has emerged as one of the Giants’ most dynamic playmakers in his first season. Through seven games, he has racked up 398 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

The fines are unfortunate, but his relentless energy and production remain exactly what New York hoped for when they called his name on draft day.
