The Baltimore Ravens have faced severe criticism online after changing Lamar Jackson's practice status for Friday's session, and the NFL will investigate the matter.
Jackson is expected to miss his third straight game for the Ravens after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 4, but is trending toward a return. Jackson is expected to start in Week 9 against the Miami Dolphins, but Tyler Huntley will play on Sunday against the Chicago Bears.

However, initially, the Ravens stated that Jackson was a full participant in Friday's practice, which suggested that he could return for Sunday's game. Baltimore later adjusted the report and said that Jackson was a limited participant — and the NFL will investigate, according to league insiders.

The NFL is more than just Team A playing Team B, and all information significantly impacts gambling and fantasy football. As a result, the NFL is very strict on how teams conduct practice reports, the official game status report, and the in-game injury report.
When Jackson was announced as a full participant, the Ravens were listed as a 6.5-point betting favorite against the Bears. However, after it was confirmed that Jackson wouldn't play, Baltimore shifted to a 1.5-point favorite.
The news significantly impacted the betting markets, and according to NFL Network, the Ravens are being investigated. "The NFL will look into the Ravens practice and participation situation surrounding Lamar Jackson’s status, I’m told, as it reviews any matter involving a change to a player’s status," wrote insider Ian Rapoport on X.

The Ravens released a statement explaining the confusion and claimed they had consulted the NFL office. "Lamar Jackson was present for and participated fully in our entire Friday practice ahead of Sunday's game against the Bears," Baltimore wrote.
"Upon further evaluation today and after conferring with the league office, because Lamar didn't take starter reps in practice, we updated our report to reflect his practice participation."
The NFL has a strict policy on all injury news and informs teams of expectations annually. The rules are also stated on the NFL's official operations website.

"The policy requires that teams provide credible, accurate, and specific information about injured players to the league office, their opponents, local and national media, and the league’s broadcast partners each week during the regular season and postseason," the rules state.

"The reporting process is of paramount importance in maintaining the integrity of the game." When referencing the practice reports, the NFL rules also clarify that all information must be shared.

"The Practice Report provides clubs and fans with an accurate description of a player’s injury status and how much he participated in practice during the week," the rules state.
"If any player has a significant or noteworthy injury, it must be listed on the practice report, even if he fully participates in practice and the team expects that he will play in the team’s next game. This is especially important for key players whose injuries may be covered extensively by the media."
