Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United are closely monitoring Middlesbrough midfield sensation Hayden Hackney.
The 23-year-old midfielder has been one of the standout performers for Middlesbrough in the past few seasons, and his work hasn’t gone unnoticed. While multiple top clubs were linked with him during the summer, Hayden Hackney ended up staying at the club.
However, he won’t be around for long as the interest in him continues to mount. Hackney has had a sensational start to the new season, and according to a report from TBR, Manchester United are one of the clubs that are interested in his services.
Graeme Bailey, said: “As Boro mount a serious promotion challenge, Hayden Hackney is emerging as the cornerstone of their push.
“However, I am told that Boro have little intention of allowing Hackney to leave in January – last season they sold Emmanuel Latte-Lath, which Michael Carrick felt cost them the chance of promotion, and they don’t intend on doing that again.
“That said, Boro’s resolve is set to be pushed if Hackney’s form keeps up – there could be some very big offers coming in January.
“Boro do know that the only way they can keep him, however, is if they get promoted and the only way to do that is by keeping him.”
Manchester United are interested in Hackney
The Red Devils were among the clubs that were keeping tabs on the Middlesbrough graduate last season, and they continue to monitor him ahead of a potential transfer in 2026. Ruben Amorim seeks more quality in the centre of the park, and Hackney can certainly help their cause.
While he prefers playing as a central midfielder, the 23-year-old is equally effective in any role in the centre of the park. Manchester United prefer signing young players for the long run, and he certainly fits the bill. More importantly, his versatility makes him a perfect fit for Amorim’s team.

The Red Devils continue to scout him, but they are not the only club that are after his signature, as Tottenham, Crystal Palace, Brighton, Fulham, and Brentford have all been linked with him. Meanwhile, rivals Newcastle United have been watching him in action in recent weeks.
Amorim’s side could make a move in January, but securing his services mid-season seems unlikely. With Middlesbrough pushing for promotion and Hackney being a key figure in their squad, the club are expected to resist any offers during the winter window.
