'All things being equal': Chris Sutton weighs up Leeds' chances of surviving relegation

Following Saturday’s Premier League games, Leeds United sit in 15th place in the Premier League table with 11 points from nine games, and Chris Sutton his weighed up Leeds’ chances of survival.

Friday night’s win against West Ham was a major shot in the arm for Leeds and Daniel Farke. The Whites needed a result after two successive losses and just one win in seven, since the first game of the season.

Brenden Aaronson won some faith among Leeds supporters with his first goal of the season, producing a performance that many felt he wasn’t capable of. Certainly, it boosts his chances of a World Cup call-up.

Joe Rodon continued his goalscoring form from a corner, as Daniel Farke’s work behind the scenes with Rodon pays off. With 11 from nine, Leeds are above a point a game and Chris Sutton gave his verdict.

Chris Sutton weighs up Leeds United’s chances of survival

Much is made about the magical 40-point mark, but in the last few seasons, that number has dipped into the mid-thirties. A point a game is what Farke is hoping to achieve with Leeds over the next few months.

Leeds remain above that curve. Speaking on BBC’s 606 on Saturday evening, Sutton gave his verdict when asked about Leeds’ chances of survival after the win over West Ham on Friday night, at Elland Road.

Sutton also discussed whether Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be a success:”I think it’s fitness with Calvert-Lewin and getting a run of games. We know there is a player in there. Is he the player which he once was?

“All things being equal, I think Leeds have had a pretty good start to the season. In the mix, in their fighting, good display last night. They have a good chance of staying up,” Sutton added, on Leeds.

The stats show Chris Sutton is right in his verdict on Leeds

It comes after Sutton praised Farke for the job he has done at Leeds, having struggled at Norwich in the Premier League. Farke has been criticised for his time at Norwich in the Premier League, without context.

Farke had no financial backing at Norwich and now, with some, if not as much as he wanted at Leeds, Farke has made a solid start. The stats prove that Farke has put Leeds in an excellent position, so far.

As the table above states, no team with 11 points or more after 10 games – one more than Leeds have played – have been relegated in the last 10 seasons. Farke’s Leeds are on track to avoid relegation.
