Chelsea star looked unhappy when Enzo Maresca subbed him off during Sunderland defeat

Chelsea players were left frustrated at full-time of their Premier League fixture with Sunderland, however one individual was unhappy far earlier in the afternoon at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues fell to a 2-1 defeat to the recently promoted side, putting an end to their run of four consecutive wins in all competitions.

Enzo Maresca’s substitutions were criticised by Chelsea fans, and they felt the full effects of Josh Acheampong’s departure from the game when Tosin Adarabioyo and Trevoh Chalobah looked pretty clueless up against the decisive late Sunderland counter attack.

The most frustrating part of things for Chelsea fans was the fact they had started the game in such positive fashion, opening the scoring after four minutes through Alejandro Garnacho.

Alejandro Garnacho disappointed to be subbed off during Chelsea vs Sunderland

The former Manchester United man has had to wait patiently for his opportunities at Stamford Bridge, however made the most of being handed the start on Saturday.

Despite impressing, Garnacho was the first player to be substituted as Chelsea looked for a winner, with Estevao Willian entering the fray.

According to BBC Sport, the Argentine was not best pleased when his number came up just a few minutes into the second half.

There were struggles in attack throughout the game for Chelsea, as they failed to really create any clear-cut chances to get their noses back in front.

Joao Pedro faced criticism for his performance, while Marc Guiu’s first start in the Premier League this season didn’t deliver the desired results.

Fierce battle for winger spots at Chelsea

Chelsea spent big money over the summer on new wingers, with Garnacho, Estevao and Jamie Gittens already joining the club.

The trio have had to wait for their chance to shine partly down due to the impressive performances of Pedro Neto this season so far.

Chelsea fans want to see more of Estevao, however the logical approach taken by Maresca is to protect him from playing too many games at his age.

Garnacho made his case in the game against Sunderland for more appearances, while Gittens will be waiting for his opportunity to build on his player of the match performance against Ajax.
