Manchester United recorded a third-straight Premier League win in front of a buoyant Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon
The victory was a third-straight win for Ruben Amorim, who is enjoying his best winning run since becoming United boss almost 12 months ago.
The hosts went 3-0 up before being pegged back to 3-2 but Bryan Mbeumo made sure of the three points with a goal deep into stoppage time in what was his second goal of the afternoon.
Brighton beat United in both meetings between the clubs last season but were second best on Saturday as the Red Devils gave their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League a major boost.
There is still of course a long way to go with just nine games played for Amorim’s side but a run of wins will only breed further confidence. That was felt at Old Trafford on Saturday with there a real sense of belief throughout the crowd at certain points. Brighton’s late comeback did provide some nerves but overall it was a hugely-positive afternoon for the Red Devils.
Fabian Hurzeler reacts to Man Utd win over Brighton
"I think they [Man Utd] had confidence, we had confidence. We started in a 50/50 game like this. The atmosphere was loud today. The fans were loud today but we made them loud with our mistakes, that is also part of the truth and that is something we have to change,” said the Brighton manager.
He added: "It is disappointing. We made too many mistakes and like this, you cannot win the game.
"I felt it all the time that there was something. We are consistently there. We worked hard, we had chances and they had chances but the main thing was after our too easy mistakes, it cost us energy. That energy, we missed it a little bit in the end.
"In the end it is about execution and our execution wasn't right today. We made too many easy mistakes and we have to start in training, take every pass and every touch serious. We have to improve."
Ruben Amorim senses improvement as winning run continues
United had beaten Sunderland and Liverpool before adding Brighton to their list of recent wins. Against Liverpool last weekend, the Red Devils had their backs to the wall for large parts of the game and Amorim admitted he found the win over Brighton more enjoyable.
The United boss said: “I think they are more confident. I think the best game that we did this season was against Arsenal, was the first one. But then, when you are a little bit more confident, when you have a different spirit, sometimes you have a little bit [of] luck in certain moments of the game that help you to win games.
“Is that what I'm feeling now, that we are a little bit more free playing the game? And like last week, we have a little bit luck because of that, because we are in the different spirit.”
