The Atlanta Falcons have a question mark at quarterback going into the Week 8 game against the Miami Dolphins, as Michael Penix Jr. is listed as questionable.
Penix sustained a knee bruise in Week 7 and was added to the injury report this week. He was limited for all three of the Falcons' practices before drawing a questionable tag.
Will Penix buck the questionable tag and play? Or will the Falcons be forced to turn to Kirk Cousins this week?
Here's what we know.
Is Michael Penix Jr. playing today?
No, Penix is not expected to play today and Kirk Cousins will get the start instead, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
"Kirk Cousins will start for the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins as starter Michael Penix Jr. recovers from a bone bruise in his left knee, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Saturday," ESPN's Marc Raimondi said.
This will be Cousin's first start since Week 15 of last season, the game to preceded his benching and the official start of the Penix era in Atlanta.
Kirk Cousins start or sit advice
With six teams on bye this week, Cousins could be a starting option, although it's an admittedly scary proposition given the fact that Cousins has yet to play any meaningful snaps in 2025 and didn't look good before getting benched in 2024.
The Dolphins are giving up the sixth-most fantasy points per game to quarterbacks this season, which is where the ammunition to start Cousins comes from.
We'd consider him a fringe starting option in 10-12 team leagues.
Verdict: Start
