Fight to secure purchase option for Leeds United player explained – Whites €10-15m demand

Leeds United allowed Mateo Joseph to join Mallorca on loan towards the end of the summer window. It had been a difficult summer for the Premier League club and the 22-year-old.

His camp had earlier tried to force through a move to Real Betis, and Joseph effectively went on strike to try and make that happen. Leeds United manager Daniel Farke shared his frustration at the time, telling the media there was little the club could do to force the youngster to be work properly.

Mallorca later secured a straight loan, and Joseph scored his first goals for them last weekend. That came via a brace against Sevilla, helping to win the match against Sevilla.

That’s obviously seen a lot of attention sent the Leeds United player’s way.

Sunday’s edition of Ultima Hora, a newspaper local to Mallorca, is trying to calm some of the drama. It’s explained Mallorca have no option to sign Joseph permanently.

They fought to include one in the original loan deal, but Leeds United refused. Instead the Yorkshire club said they’d allow a straight loan or a permanent transfer at €10-15m.

Ultima Hora almost laugh when insisting such an amount wouldn’t be within Mallorca’s reach. What happens next summer remains to be seen.
