Bryan Mbeumo admits "it hasn't been easy" for Manchester United's new-look attack in the early stages of the season but insists the connection between himself, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko is starting to develop.
Mbeumo scored twice on Saturday as United made it three wins in a row. United took a 2-0 lead into half-time and looked home and hosed when Mbeumo made it 3-0 after the break. However, a nervy finish was in store after Danny Welbeck's free kick and Charalampos Kostoulas' header in added time.
Mbeumo stepped up to seal the victory late in the game, meaning he now has five goals since his move to United. Cunha's strike was just his first for the club and Mbeumo admitted it was a relief for the Brazilian to get off the mark. "Yeah, of course the pressure is off his shoulders today with the goal, he was waiting for it and we were waiting for it as well," he explained.
"We are very happy for him. We are growing the link-ups between each other [himself, Sesko and Cunha].
"It hasn’t been easy obviously because we all came this year and we tried to make the connections in training. It hasn’t been easy coming into this environment, a big club, the expectations are not easy to handle but with the teammates, everyone is helping me, helping the team, helping the new players and I think that was very important."
When asked whether he could match the 20 goals he scored in the last campaign, Mbeumo said: "I always try to aim big in everything that I do. I try not to set limits on myself and on what I can reach. I am just going to work on that as much as possible.
United's win moved them up to fourth and Mbeumo is optimistic for the future. "Everyone wants to fight for as high as possible," he said.
"We want to win as many games as we can and that is what we are going to try and do."
