Former Everton star Wayne Rooney namedrops Jake Paul and KSI when asked if he'll start boxing

Former Everton star Wayne Rooney has always been into his boxing away from football.

In fact, former Cruiserweight world champion Tony Bellew is convinced Rooney has the ability to box professionally.

Rooney’s Uncle Richie founded Croxteth ABC Boxing Club and was recognised earlier this year for his outstanding work, winning the Community Hero Award, presented by Ricky Hatton and Natasha Jonas.

So boxing is clearly a big part of his life, and he was just asked whether he’d consider going on Misfits, which stages some of the biggest fights in the world, often between social media stars and former athletes.

Wayne Rooney hasn’t ruled out boxing on Misfits

Speaking on the Wayne Rooney show, the football legend appeared to circle around the question when asked if he’d box on misfits, seemingly leaving the door open to a potential fight.

Interview: “Have you ever been tempted? Cause you get linked with like Misfits and stuff like that quite a lot, don’t you?

Rooney replied: “No you get asked to go and do misfits and all that and… I think some of the… like you look at Jake Paul now, and he’s a good boxer. He’s very good.

“KSI too as well and whatever, but no, it’s a bit of fun and mess around, yeah.”

Eddie Hearn was in talks with Wayne Rooney over Jake Paul fight

Speaking previously on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel, boxing promoter Eddie Hearn revealed that he has actually had talks with Rooney about making the Paul fight at Old Trafford.

“I’ve actually spoke to Wayne a few times about the Jake Paul fight,” Hearn admitted.

“Normally, if he has a couple of glasses of red (wine) he’ll fire in a message to me at night going, ‘Listen, I wanna fight that geezer.’

“Wayne can fight, he had a couple of amateur fights – but him against Jake Paul at Old Trafford, that’s actually a makeable fight.”

Last year, KSI said that he’d love to have Rooney on his boxing promotion: “Yes, he does (have an interest in boxing), but I think he’s probably going to have to lose a bit of weight before he gets into the ring.

“But if he’s actually serious about wanting to fight, then Misfits have their arms wide open.”

Certainly something to keep an eye on with Rooney now out of work after leaving Plymouth Argyle last December.
