The New Orleans Saints, at 1-6, are looking like clear sellers at the 2025 NFL trade deadline. While they'll likely entertain offers from around the league on various players, the most prominent part of the roster that'll draw attention is the wide receiver room.
Chris Olave is likely not on the move, as he and the Saints are trying to work out an extension. But, Rashid Shaheed could be dealt for the right price. The same can be said for veteran journeyman Brandin Cooks.
If the Saints do trade Cooks, it'd be a move that would make NFL history. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network shared just how Cooks would make NFL history and why a trade is possible.
How Saints could make NFL history with a Brandin Cooks trade
Cooks has been dealt four times, and if he's dealt a fifth, it'd be the only time in NFL history a player has been traded five times in their NFL career.
"Cooks, 32, has been traded four times in his 12-year career, tied for most in NFL history with linebacker Kiko Alonso and Hall of Famer running back Eric Dickerson." Rapoport writes.
The five trades Cooks has been a part of began back in 2017, when the Saints traded him to the New England Patriots, then in 2018 from the Patriots to the Los Angeles Rams, followed by the Rams to the Houston Texans in 2020, and finally from the Texans to the Dallas Cowboys in 2023.
With New Orleans planning to keep Olave, and Shaheed not a sure thing to be traded, Cooks is the most likely trade candidate for New Orleans at the deadline.

So far this season, his first back in New Orleans since the first three years of his NFL career, Cooks has 14 receptions for 127 yards and no touchdowns on 18 targets.
In the offseason, Cooks signed a two-year, $13 million contract with the Saints. It's not the cheapest contract to trade for, but with a veteran wide receiver who's been a part of many different schemes, there's reason for a contender in need of wide receiver depth to have interest in Cooks.
The 2014 first-round draft pick could be on the move at the 2025 NFL trade deadline, and with the Saints looking to sell off some of their players at the deadline, Cooks is a strong candidate to be traded.
If he is moved, Cooks would make NFL history as the only player to ever be traded five times in a career. Ironically, the Patriots could use wide receiver help, so the Saints could finalize NFL history by trading Cooks to the team that kicked off this history-making career.
