Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam insists that Shedeur Sanders remains part of the franchise's plans despite continuing to get no first-team practice reps.
Sanders' chastening introduction to life in the NFL shows no sign of easing. Since his staggering draft slide from first-round prospect to fifth-round pick, he has had few opportunities to impress with the Browns.

The shock trade of veteran starter Joe Flacco to AFC North rivals, the Cincinnati Bengals, seemed to raise former Colorado standout Sanders' hopes of getting opportunities both in practice and on Sundays, but fellow rookie QB Dillon Gabriel has taken on starting duties and all first-team reps in practice. To make matters worse, Sanders is questionable to assume his backup duties against the New England Patriots on Sunday due to injury.

Former Oregon and Oklahoma signal-caller Gabriel picked up his first win as the Browns' starter at the third attempt with a victory over the lowly Miami Dolphins last time out.
The 24-year-old has thrown for 546 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions this season. Although he has looked after the ball, he has appeared limited as a playmaker in the passing game. Haslam says Gabriel has not had "a great sample [size]" to prove his worth, and the team intends to give him more time.
But Haslam says the franchise remains committed to developing 23-year-old Sanders. He said: "Shedeur's making progress in practice, so we're going to continue to work with both of those guys."

Earlier in the season, Gabriel had the benefit of getting first-team practice reps while serving as Flacco's understudy.
Sanders has not had the same privilege, and head coach Kevin Stefanski explained the decision during his media availability this week.
“Being a young QB, you want to make sure he’s getting a lot of reps. It’s different when you have a vet like Joe," Stefanski said when asked why Sanders was not getting first-string opportunities in practice.
Insiders report that Sanders has garnered plenty of praise behind the scenes, and his social media activity of late suggests his patience is not yet wearing thin.
