Falcons vs. Dolphins: The matchup
Vegas oddsmakers perhaps aren’t sold on the Falcons blowing the doors off the Dolphins, even on their home field, but they have installed Atlanta as a 7.5-point favorite. That position perhaps accounts for the projected absence of starting quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and a return to the starting lineup for veteran backup Kirk Cousins. The Falcons look for a rebound performance from a 20-10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers that spoiled back-to-back huge wins over the Washington Commanders (34-27) and Buffalo Bills (24-14).
The Dolphins are on a run of three straight losses, the most embarrassing of which came in a 31-6 setback on the road to the Cleveland Browns in Week 7. Starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw for just 100 yards and was intercepted three times before getting the hook in favor of rookie backup Quinn Ewers to try and find some semblance of a spark. With that position unsettled, embattled coach Mike McDaniel could lean harder on explosive running back De’Von Achane, who has rushed for 472 yards while averaging a robust 5.3 yards per carry despite the team’s ongoing woes.
