John Terry ignores Chelsea’s loss to Sunderland to praise record-breaking Cobham graduate

There was very little for Chelsea fans to get excited by at Stamford Bridge this weekend, so John Terry instead decided to praise one of the up and coming stars in the club’s academy.

The Blues fell to a 2-1 defeat to Sunderland after conceding in the last minute, seeing them fall to eighth in the Premier League table.

There were a number of disappointing individual performances of note at Stamford Bridge, with Joao Pedro receiving criticism for his display despite playing in the number 10 role.

On a more positive note for the club, the Chelsea U21s were victorious earlier in the day on Saturday, beating rivals Arsenal 2-1.

John Terry heaps praise on Chelsea youngster Reggie Walsh

Reggie Walsh found the net for the Blues, impressing Terry, who has a vested interest in what’s going on at Cobham.

Terry took to TikTok to praise the 17-year-old for his performance, after he attended the game himself.

He said: “Well I didn’t see that one coming today, losing to Sunderland at home, especially after the couple weeks that we’ve had.

“But I was at the Under 21s game today against Arsenal which we ended up winning 2-1. Reggie Walsh scored the goal. I spoke about him, how good of a character he is, and you know followed that up with a really good performance and topped it off with a goal today as well.”

Chelsea had opened the scoring earlier via Jesse Derry, as he continued his electric start to life in West London following his move from Crystal Palace.

Record-breaking Reggie Walsh enjoys dream week

Chelsea fans will be aware of the quality of Walsh after seeing him make brief appearances under Enzo Maresca, however the biggest moment of his career came earlier this week.

The midfielder came off the bench in the second half in Chelsea’s dominant Champions League win over Ajax at Stamford Bridge.

Walsh became Chelsea’s youngest Champions League player in history with his appearance, and went on to sign his first professional contract with the club later in the week.

It looks as if more opportunities are set to come the youngster’s way, and this could be as soon as Wednesday when the Blues are back in EFL Cup action against Wolves.
