Matty Cash’s first-half strike secured the three points for the hosts, ending our impressive run of results in the process.

Savinho saw an effort cleared off the line whilst Erling Haaland had a late goal ruled out for offside as we pushed for a leveller, but the hosts stood firm to claim a slender victory.

Speaking to City Studios after the game, captain Bernardo Silva said:

“Well obviously, [it’s] frustrating, because we wanted a different result. And the team was doing well, we were on a good run.

“Fair play to them first of all because they’re a quality team. They have a lot of fantastic players.

“They’ve been with this same manager for a long time so they’re know what they’re doing exactly.

“I also do believe that the beginning of the game was really good and then it became a more transitional game because we allowed it to happen.”

Bernardo also spoke about our recent Villa Park form with three consecutive losses at the stadium and touched on the team’s desire to begin a new run of positive results.
