Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett reached a milestone few defenders ever touch, rewriting NFL history in the first quarter against the New England Patriots.
The 29-year-old pass rusher moved past Hall of Famer Reggie White for the most career sacks by a player before turning 30.
White, widely known as the “Minister of Defense,” had held the benchmark with 108 sacks before hitting that age. Garrett entered Sunday needing just one to pass him and wasted no time.
Early in the game, with New England threatening deep in Browns territory, Garrett overpowered tight end Hunter Henry’s chip block and beat rookie tackle Will Campbell to bring down quarterback Drake Maye for career sack No. 108.5.
The play ended the Patriots’ drive and forced them to settle for a field goal.

Record-setting play highlights Garrett’s growing legacy
Garrett’s sack against New England adds another chapter to an already dominant career. The six-time Pro Bowler entered Week 8 with five sacks and now sits at six for the season.
His 108.5 career total not only breaks White’s pre-30 record but also pushes him to fifth on the all-time list for sacks within a player’s first nine seasons, surpassing Derrick Thomas (107.5).

Garrett’s consistency has been unmatched in recent years. In 2024, he became the first NFL player to notch at least 14 sacks in four straight seasons (2021–24) and remains the only defender to post double-digit sacks in seven consecutive years (2018–24).
Last season, he also became the first since 1982 to record 100 career sacks before his 29th birthday, a mark reached in Week 17 against Miami.
