Medical staff attended immediately, and Skattebo’s teammates, including quarterback Jaxson Dart, were visibly emotional. The Philadelphia crowd gave him a standing ovation as he was removed from the field.

Skattebo and Dart had emerged as a bright spot for the Giants, injecting youthful energy and optimism into the offense. In six games, Skattebo had a passer rating of 89.3, 791 passing yards, and seven touchdowns.

Right before his injury, Skattebo had caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Dart to tie the game at the time.

Cam Skattebo Could Return by 2026 as Optimism Mixes with Concern

The injury is definitely a season-ending injury. Skattebo is scheduled for surgery to repair the open tibia fracture. The nature of the injury likely involves damage to several ligaments that connect the tibia and fibula, which will also require surgical repair.

Recovery is expected to take several months, but there is optimism that he could return by the start of the 2026 NFL season. Due to the severity of the joint injury, there is an increased risk of early-onset post-traumatic arthritis in the ankle later in his career.

With Skattebo out, the Giants will have a new backfield rotation. They will rely on Tyrone Tracy Jr., who started at the beginning of the season but had a dislocated shoulder. Veteran running back Devin Singletary is also expected to play a bigger role in the offense alongside Tracy.

The Giants’ offense must adjust to losing one of its key playmakers. Analysts have noted that Skattebo had become a consistent threat in the red zone and a reliable pass catcher.

This is the second season-ending injury to a Giants’ playmaker this year, following wide receiver Malik Nabers’ torn ACL in Week 4
