Justin Fields claps back at Jets owner Woody Johnson after this weeks comments

New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields had a rough week, to say the least.

He was benched in the second half of the Jets' Week 7 loss against the Carolina Panthers, and to make matters worse, the team's owner, Woody Johnson, publicly lambasted him at the NFL owners' meetings in New York.

"It’s hard when you have a quarterback with the rating that we’ve got. He has the ability, but something is not jiving," Johnson told the press. "You have to play consistently at that position and that’s what we’re going to try to do for the remainder of the season."

Fields quieted the doubters, at least for a week, following his Week 8 performance en route to a 39-38 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

The former Buckeye put on a show, completing 65.6% of his passes for 244 yards and one touchdown. He also added 31 yards on the ground.

New York picked up their first win of the season, and it was a big one for a young team searching for something to hold on to.

Fields spoke to the media after the victory and was asked how he dealt with Johnson's comments throughout the week.

"That’s outside noise at the end of the day. I get that he’s the owner of the team but that’s outside noise," Fields said.

"The biggest thing was my teammates believing in me and my coaches believing in me."

Calling your team's owner outside noise is certainly an interesting choice, but after what Johnson said this week, it was certainly fair game for the embattled Jets quarterback.
