Wolverhampton Wanderers star Joao Gomes has thanked fans for their continued support of the club after yet another Premier League loss, this time to newly-promoted Burnley – stating that other fanbases ‘would have abandoned them’ for their run of results.
Wolves had lost six and drawn just two of their eight Premier League games so far this season, including disappointing defeats to Everton and Leeds United at home to really set fears going over a return to the Championship.
Burnley’s visit to Molineux gave Vitor Pereira his best chance of getting a win on board so far this season, with the Clarets having failed to earn a single point on the road so far in the league under Scott Parker.

However, a Zian Flemming first-half brace was followed up by Lyle Foster’s last-gasp winner despite Wolves drawing level. Boos rang around Molineux, and Joao Gomes has taken to social media to praise the fans’ support.

Wolves star Joao Gomes thanks Wolves fans for continuing to show up to Molineux
Wolves went 2-0 down to Burnley inside half an hour, and although they had a revival after drawing level by the break, the last-minute defeat will knock the stuffing out of Vitor Pereira’s side.
Molineux was over 90 percent full for Burnley’s visit, but the home faithful laid eyes on a fourth home defeat of the campaign from five.
And Gomes took to X (formerly Twitter) to state that fans will be rewarded for their loyalty, as other fans would have ‘already abandoned them’.
The Brazilian midfielder was dropped from the starting lineup for the first time this season, despite wearing the captain’s armband three weeks ago against Brighton.
Joao Gomes is a fan favourite at Wolves, make no mistake. But although his tweet will have gone down well with the fanbase, there is no shying away from the fact that their form is slowly seeing them go down to the Championship.

Wolves must improve Molineux form otherwise relegation will be imminent
In their opening nine games this season, Wolves have played the promoted teams but lost all three fixtures, only taking points away at Tottenham and at home to Brighton. Wolves conceded late in stoppage-time against Tottenham to see them remain winless since a 3-0 win over already-relegated Leicester City in April.
Two trips to Fulham and Chelsea in the next fortnight will see them head into the international break, and with two points from 11 games should they lose both, it will be a long way back.
They’re already six points adrift of safety, eight behind Burnley and nine behind Leeds, a tough tally to recover from at such an early stage.
Today showed the support can get quite toxic. Boos rang round after Burnley’s second, and at the full-time whistle, with chants of ‘we want Fosun out’ being loud and clear.
Even before the New Year, Wolves will face away trips to Chelsea, Aston Villa, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United, so they need to make Molineux a fortress again in that time.
Vitor Pereira will quickly need to get fans on board but he may not be offered enough time to do so if results continue.
