CLEVELAND, Ohio — Browns quarterback Dillon Gabriel took questions from reporters on Sunday with regard to the 32-13 loss to the New England Patriots, the Browns offense, Drake Maye, and more.
Below is the transcript as provided by the Browns media relations department:
How tough sledding was it out there for you guys today?
“Yeah, needed to and didn’t.”
You guys have a bye week coming up. Are you going to use this time to regroup, or what will you do to try to –
“Yeah, we need to. It starts with me. I’ve got to find solutions and make sure the outcome changes. But it’s not, so we have to work on that.”
Drake Maye is a young quarterback. What do you like about his game?
“Yeah, he’s just been playing at a really high level this year.”
That first series, everything was working so well for you guys. Then you kind of got off script and it seems like things bogged down a little bit more. What can you take from that first script, that first drive and kind of spread it out over the rest of the game?
“Yeah, I want to continue to do that. We were explosive in that first drive, and want to continue to create that. But sustaining, 3rd downs, where we’ve got to be better at, and it starts with me for sure.”
The wide receivers only had two receptions. Is that going to be kind of priority No. 1 as you guy go into the bye, just to try to find a way to get Jerry more involved or –
“Yeah, we’ll have to watch film and then let the coaches see what the priority is, number one.”
Q: (Indiscernible).
“Yeah, just need to be able to spread it out more. I think when you’re efficient and you’re playing at a high level, everyone is touching it.”
Dillon, you had the one 3rd down play where it looked like the ball went off Harold’s hands, but it looked like Jerry was right behind him. Was that just sort of two guys -- one guy maybe in the wrong position? Was that ball intended for Jerry?
“It was intended for Jerry, but tough them being stacked on one another. Trying to get it to him probably early in the down, but turned into a scramble drill later.”
Q: (Indiscernible).
“Yeah, Quinshon is really good, and like when he’s in the game.”
The pass to Bond out of bounds, it took you a while to see him –
“Yeah, got a squeeze and then ended up getting out, but just the yardage was shrinking there. Would have liked to have gotten it to him earlier in the down, but didn’t and have to.”
Q: Kevin said (indiscernible) how do you feel that Kevin (indiscernible)?
“Yeah, we’ve got to get better.”
What can you do?
“We’ve got to get back to work. You’ve got to get better. It starts with me. Yeah, I don’t want to stand up here and say the same ol’ story. We’ve got to get better, and there’s multiple categories, starting with me.”
What was your personal (indiscernible) is there anything that you can do to get better?
“Yeah, get to watch all of it, look back at it, see where I can be better. There’s a lot of areas I can be better and be more efficient, sustain more drives, and score more points.”
You talk about stepping back and looking at it all. How much does this bye week give you an opportunity to finally step back and see bigger picture because you’re sort of in the moment over these last four or five weeks, just getting ready for each week?
“Yeah, I’ll let the coaches and stuff big picture, but for me, I’ll find those priorities where I need to be better at, and then I need to get better at it.”
Did the Patriots make any major adjustments (indiscernible)?
“No, I think they just are a very solid team and played really well, sound football, and they made plays and we didn’t. That’s the name of the game; we’ve got to make plays, and it starts with me.”
Q: (Indiscernible).
“I don’t think anybody likes losing.”
