Why Mitchell Robinson isn't playing for Knicks vs. Heat today

There’s a reason why Mitchell Robinson has been involved in trade rumors the past couple of months.

While the former second-round pick is a valuable backup big man with a keen understanding of how to position his body for offensive and defensive rebounds properly, he’s become an injury-riddled frontcourt presence lately.

Robinson’s injury struggles will continue to start the 2025-26 season, as the 27-year-old has already been ruled out for the Knicks' upcoming game against the Miami Heat.

Why Mitchell Robinson isn't playing tonight vs. the Heat

Robinson will miss his third consecutive game with a left ankle injury. It isn’t far-fetched to suggest that Robinson’s ankles have betrayed him in his late 20s, as he’s missed over 50 regular-season games from 2023 to 2025 due to the nagging lower-body setback.

Robinson, who appeared in three preseason games with the Knicks this season, averaged 5.6 points and 8.5 rebounds in 2023-24 and 5.1 points to go with 5.9 rebounds last season in limited action.

Getting Robinson back in the lineup at any time would be viewed as a win for New York. However, it doesn’t change the fact that the franchise is undeniably growing weary of the Pensacola, Florida native’s inability to stay out of injury trouble and be consistently available.
