Bruno Guimaraes has lifted the lid on his aeroplane horror after his long-haul flight to the Far East was forced into an emergency landing earlier this month.
The Brazil international was jetting to Tokyo for his country’s clash with Japan when the faulty aircraft turned back to Amsterdam.
The Newcastle captain said: “Two windows broke in the middle of the flight.
“We were in the middle of the air and could not stop, so we had to fly back.
“I’ve never seen this before.
“I was sleeping. I just woke up and said, ‘Two hours to come back to Amsterdam?’
“I didn't understand anything. But after they explained to me that it was moving a lot during the flight.
“I was not scared at first
“After, when I realised, I was a little bit. But during the flight, I was okay.
“Joelinton was awake and when I woke up, he said: ‘We are going back’. I couldn't believe it. I said, ‘Are you serious?’”
After waiting for a connecting flight, the journey ended up taking 30 hours, leaving the pair jaded with jetlag and a race against time to be ready for last weekend's trip to Brighton.
Eddie Howe had spoken about the long haul trips for friendly games last month and reflected: "I mean, what those players do that play for their countries, that have to travel those kind of distances - I know it sounds easy - you're going to play for your country, you're going to fly halfway across the world, it's a privilege, and don’t get me wrong, the players know that. But it is hard and it's hard on their brains, their bodies."
