Jaylen Brown is the Celtics ‘Name to Know’ Player of the Game in Sunday loss to Pistons

The Celtics were up big to start Sunday’s game against the Pistons, but they couldn’t finish the job as they were again punished on the glass. In the end, the Celtics lost 119-113 to the Pistons on Sunday from Detroit, dropping them to 0-3 on the season.

Jaylen Brown was a consistent threat for the Celtics in the loss to be Sunday’s “Name to Know” Player of the Game. The Name to Know Player of the Game is sponsored by John’s Sewer and Drain Cleaning, the Name to Know when your drains don’t flow.

Brown finished with 41 points, six rebounds and four assists, shooting 12-for-25 from the field, 5-for-9 on 3-pointers, in his 35 minutes. It was clear Brown was ready to go as he scored 10 points in the first quarter alone. He kept up that shot-making throughout the game as he was critical to keep the Celtics in the game. It was a relatively slow start to the season for Brown offensively, but he came through Sunday.

Brown was listed on the injury report ahead of the Pistons game due to the hamstring strain he suffered in the preseason. But he still played after getting upgraded pregame, though it looks like the hamstring will need to be managed for a little longer.

Expectations were high for Brown coming into this season since Jayson Tatum was sidelined with his Achilles injury. He’s been consistent when it comes to the scoring department, now averaging 29.7 points through the first three games. The shots and opportunities will be there for Brown all year.

The Celtics were in control early, building a 17-point lead in the first quarter Sunday. But the Pistons quickly stormed back, building a 15-point advantage of their own in the third quarter. While the C’s chipped back to make it a one-possession game late in the game, they couldn’t corral stops or defensive rebounds down the stretch.

The Celtics will look to get into the win column for the first time next time out. They have a back-to-back as they next face the Pelicans at 8 p.m. Monday in New Orleans. Brown’s injury will be worth monitoring, as well, since he was on the injury report ahead of Sunday’s game.
