The Pittsburgh Steelers used a meaningful draft pick on Kaleb Johnson.
So far this season, you wouldn't know it.
Johnson was the No. 83 overall pick out of Iowa, where he was a dominant running back. Third-round RBs often play a bunch in the early going.
Not Johnson. He has hardly seen the field.

Why isn't Kaleb Johnson playing?
Kaleb Johnson isn't playing because, from Week 1 onward, he's been buried on the RB depth chart in Pittsburgh.
It was expected that the returning, talented Jaylen Warren would be ahead of him to start the season.
No one expected free agent signee Kenneth Gainwell to also have a spot ahead of Johnson.
But that's the way it has gone. Even when one of those backs has missed time, it hasn't given Johnson a ton of opportunity.
He didn't help his cause with a weird kickoff miscue against the Seahawks, but he wasn't playing a lot anyway.

Johnson is active in Week 8, having appeared in four games so far.
He had one rush for negative-2 yards in Week 1, and one rush for 1 yard in Week 2.
In Week 4, Johnson ran six times for 22 yards. And in Week 6, he ran six times for 15 yards.
Johnson has been targeted once, a pass he didn't catch.
He still may have a bright future with the Steelers, but it does not appear to be a bright present.
