Pep Guardiola’s side tasted defeat for the first time since August with Matty Cash’s goal in the 1-0 loss the difference between the sides at Villa Park.
The Blues started brightly with Tijjani Reijnders coming close with a vicious, dipping effort from the edge of the area.
But the hosts opened the deadlock when a corner was whipped into Cash’s feet before the Poland international shifted the ball onto his left foot and drilled low into the bottom corner.
City defended well for the remainder of the first half, and with renewed energy after the break, created the clearer-cut chances during the second.
Savinho was denied when he met the rebound of his initial shot to slam towards the net, but Pau Torres was on hand to hook the ball off the line.
And we eventually found the net in the closing stages when Erling Haaland bundled home Omar Marmoush’s cross, but the Egyptian had strayed into an offside position in the build-up and the goal was chalked off.
It meant we lost for the first time in 10 straight outings and sit fourth in the Premier League table.
