Buccaneers rookie continuing to be shining light for Todd Bowles

Much has been made of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' injury list, particularly on offense, but what that has done is force those lower on the depth chart into positions where they can make a name for themselves.

With a host of injuries to Chris Godwin, Mike Evans, and Bucky Irving, to name a few, others like Tez Johnson, Sterling Shepard, and Kameron Johnson have been asked to step up.

All three have, but when it comes to rookie Tez, he has been a shining light for Josh Grizzard's offense.

Since seeing his snap count increase, Johnson has had receiving totals of 59, 48, 58, and then 43 against the New Orleans Saints. Tez has taken all before him, and Baker Mayfield loves what he sees from the rookie.

“I mean just Tez continues to make plays for us flying around the field,” Mayfield said. “The scramble drill aspect of it, he was lights out on that. I know he wants that in cut later on in the game, he wants that one back, but other than that, has played great.”

Johnson making WR depth chart interesting

With Evans not expected to be back until mid-December, along with Godwin and potentially Irving in the coming weeks, how the depth chart will look is going to make for interesting viewing.

Tez has played so well that Grizzard almost can't limit his usage, and with Emeka Egbuka also in the lineup, there is only one ball and a handful of quality options for Baker to dissect defenses with.

When the unit gets healthy, will Tez be forced to take a back seat? That is a real possibility, but right now, while there are snaps to be had, Johnson is making the most of them and is making the coaching staff take notice.

Many fixate on the well-known weapons at Mayfield's disposal, but none have been playing at a higher level over the past few weeks than Tez Johnson.
