Two reasons Ineos are the big winners from Manchester United win over Brighton, and their one regret

Manchester United had a weekend to remember with a big home victory over Brighton.

On a gameweek where rivals Liverpool and Manchester City both lost, Manchester United’s win was perfectly timed.

The 4-2 win for Manchester United ended Brighton’s winning-streak at Old Trafford. It extended United’s current run to three wins in a row.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe was in attendance for the victory, and his Ineos investment group were rewarded for the hard work they have put in to try and turn Manchester United’s fortunes around.

Here’s two reasons they are big winners from United’s win – and their lingering regret.

Manchester United’s signings are working

Manchester United’s transfer hit rate was appalling pre-Ineos. This has improved since they took charge of football operations.

This past summer the key priority was to improve Manchester United’s attack, with the team scoring only 44 Premier League goals last season.

Already there is sign of improvement, with 15 goals scored through eight games. At this pace, United are on track to score in excess of 60 this season and closer to 70.

United bought two proven Premier League stars, signing Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Both players scored in the victory over Brighton.

Benjamin Sesko provided an assist too, with all three players contributing towards the team’s three-match winning run.

United look like a dangerous team with goals all over the pitch, and Ineos deserve credit for sensible recruitment, with incomings and outgoings.

Ruben Amorim is making a breakthrough

There were some positive signs in pre-season, but once the competitive games began, Manchester United’s results were back to being inconsistent.

Ruben Amorim’s inability to win back-to-back games was alarming for United fans and was unsustainable long-term.

Just like Amorim’s failure would have reflected badly on Ineos, his recent winning streak is a major positive for them.

Four home wins in a row has also lifted the mood, creating a more harmonious feeling at the club. Suddenly the pressure is off.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has publicly backed Amorim, and there are bright signs right now that he will be at the club all season long, and beyond.

And the regret… signing Senne Lammens late

It looks like Manchester United made another shrewd signing by bringing in goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.

The one major mistake was signing him so late, only handing him his debut in early October.

United were first linked to Lammens in December 2024. It took until deadline day in summer 2025 to complete the deal.

Ruben Amorim was left to persist with the duo of Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir to start the season. This cost United points and elimination from the Carabao Cup.

United should have signed Lammens at the start of the summer and let him acclimatise during pre-season, not during the month of September.

The team is progressing nicely now – but how useful could the extra points be at the end of the season that Lammens could have helped to gain?
