'Something special': Former Everton striker praised after scoring first goal since summer…

Former Everton striker Youssef Chermiti is finally off the mark for Rangers after scoring against Kilmarnock on Sunday.

Everton drew a blank against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon as David Moyes’ striking concerns continue.

Beto failed to find the net once again, though he did test Guglielmo Vicario with a superb bicycle kick.

Thierno Barry is still waiting for his first Premier League goal, and Everton may look to spend on another striker in 2026.

The Toffees have struggled to find goalscorers of late, and Youssef Chermiti is a prime example of those difficulties.

Youssef Chermiti scores first Rangers goal after Everton exit

Everton invested in Chermiti back in 2023, luring the striker away from Sporting in his native Portugal.

Chermiti had only scored three times in 22 games for Sporting, but Everton saw potential in the striker.

Success at Everton was limited, though, as Chermiti failed to score in his 25 appearances for the club.

Everton sold Chermiti to Rangers over the summer, striking a deal with Kevin Thelwell worth around £8million.

Thelwell has backed Chermiti for success, but Rangers fans have been left unconvinced after a string of poor displays.

On Sunday, at the ninth time of asking, Chermiti finally bagged his first Gers goal.

Chermiti smashed home a powerful effort to help Rangers beat Kilmarnock 3-1, though goalkeeper Eddie Beach didn’t cover himself in glory.

Chermiti is off the mark now, and the former Everton forward will look to build some momentum at Ibrox.

Rangers boss hails Youssef Chermiti

Everton will still be invested in Chermiti’s future because his fee could rise to £10million if certain add-ons are met.

Every little helps for the Toffees, and that extra £2million could come in handy down the line.

Chermiti needs to become a success at Rangers in order to activate those add-ons, and new Gers boss Danny Rohl seems to be a fan.

Rohl – no relation to Everton midfielder Merlin Rohl – told BBC Sport that he thinks Chermiti has ‘something special’.

Rohl vowed to keep helping Chermiti develop, believing that the striker still has a long way to go.

“I think he is also demanding on himself. We will improve him step by step. He has something special,” said Rohl.

“Still things to improve, especially with the pressing, but I think he should enjoy the goal today and tomorrow we can work on the next parts of his game,” he added.

Chermiti is far from the finished product and almost certainly wouldn’t have solved Everton’s striking woes this season.

There won’t be many sleepless nights from decision makers inside Everton after selling Chermiti, and the Toffees need to make sure that the next striking arrival makes a much bigger impact.
