Kostoulas explains big step-up after his record-breaking Albion goal

Charalampos Kostoulas has revealed the big step up he had to take with [Albion](https://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/albion/?ref=au) – after his record-breaking Premier League goal.

The Greece under-21 forward opened his account for the club with a header late in the 4-2 defeat at Manchester United.

At 18, he became the youngest Greek player to score in the competition.

He headed in a pinpoint corner delivered by James Milner, a player who made his Prem debut before Kostoulas was even born.

It is the first time this particular dynamic has happened with a scorer and assist-provider in the Premier League.

Milner’s top-flight debut with Leeds actually came five years before Kostoulas was born in May, 2007.

The age gap of 21 years and 146 days is the biggest between a scorer and an assist-provider for a Prem goal.

Kostoulas, 18, will now target more playing time when the Seagulls go to Arsenal on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup.

He said his first Prem goal was “better than a dream” apart from the result.

But he gave some insight into the adaptation he has had to make from playing in the Greek top flight with Olympiacos.

Fabian Hurzeler praised Kostoulas’s hard work in front of the rest of the team after the Newcastle game and said that was why he had earned his league debut.

Speaking at Old Trafford, Kostoulas highlighted Hurzeler’s role and told BBC Radio Sussex: “He helped me a lot. He taught a different football to me. Tactically a lot.

“He tried to make me more disciplined because it is different the knowledge here to Greece and my previous club. With time, I’m feeling better.

“I thank everyone at the club, they helped me a lot. I’m feeling good and looking forward to helping the team.”

Kostoulas appeared to take a whack to the face in his efforts at Old Trafford.

Hurzeler will update on his squad on Tuesday morning ahead of the trip to the Emirates.
