Jamie Carragher pinpoints massive Liverpool weakness that is ruining their title defence

**Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher feels one aspect of the Reds’ game is playing a huge role in their struggles in the Premier League this season.**

Arne Slot is under big pressure after Saturday’s 3-2 defeat away to Brentford, with Liverpool now losing four league games in a row.

It feels like so much is wrong with the Reds right now, from struggling signings to the out-of-form Mohamed Salah, but a change in style in the Premier League is also an issue, with the division now feeling more direct and physical.

Speaking on [_Sky Sports_](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11661/13458479/liverpool-jamie-carragher-says-arne-slots-side-are-in-a-crisis-and-the-premier-league-champions-must-improve-their-physicality), Carragher bemoaned Liverpool’s struggles in general and also specifically in that area of their game, with opponents bullying them too often this season:

_“Losing four games in a row for Brentford would be a disaster. To see the champions do it with the expenditure in the summer means we’re in crisis time for Liverpool right now._

_“There will be a lot of serious questions asked in the dressing room between the players and the coaching staff and the people above the manager. When they’ve looked at what they’ve spent, they’ll be looking for a lot more. Liverpool have to look at the physicality and height within their team because, right now, I don’t think they have enough.”_

**Liverpool have to change…AND FAST!**

--------------------------------------

Liverpool’s decline this season has been shocking to watch, with so few predicting them to fall off in the manner they have after winning the title just five months ago.

As mentioned, there are many reasons for the Reds’ current issues, but the manner in which they are failing to deal with long balls and set-pieces is proving to be a major issue.

Whether fans like this new style of play from many teams is another conversation, but for Slot, he must change his approach, or accept that more points are going to be dropped in the coming weeks.

It does feel increasingly strange that Liverpool signed two small full-backs in Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez, when the style of the league was changing, and it may be that Slot and Richard Hughes were blind to it happening.
