Scott Parker responds to question on how to beat Liverpool
The latest Liverpool injury news - with updates on Curtis Jones, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexander Isak and more.
Liverpool’s recent struggles were compounded this weekend not only by a fourth consecutive Premier League defeat, but also by another injury with Arne Slot’s options narrowing ahead of their midweek EFL Cup clash with Crystal Palace.
Curtis Jones limped from the field during the second half of the Reds’ 3-2 defeat away to Brentford on Saturday, and he joins the likes of Ryan Gravenberch and Alexander Isak as doubts for Wednesday evening’s match against Oliver Glasner’s Palace. In total, as many as six Liverpool players could be unavailable.
We’ve got all of the latest Liverpool injury news and updates below, along with the stricken players’ expected return dates when available.
How bad is Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones’ injury?
Jones became Liverpool’s latest injury worry when he was forced off with 20 minutes left to play against Brentford. An apparent muscular injury now makes him a doubt for Liverpool’s upcoming fixtures, although the club have yet to provide information on the precise nature or severity of the problem.
“We have to wait and see,” Slot told the media immediately after the match. “He asked to be taken off but he walked off instead of needing treatment. It’s a lot of games and there’s another one in four days.”
With little to go on, it’s impossible to say whether he will be able to play any part against Crystal Palace at this point, and he won’t be the only question mark in central midfield – Dutchman Ryan Gravenberch is also a doubt as he recovers from an ankle injury. Slot told the media during his Friday press conference that Gravenberch’s injury was not serious, but he still failed a late fitness test and took no part against Brentford. He could, however, be available to face Palace.
When are Alexander Isak and Alisson back for Liverpool?
Slot did not believe the injury was likely to be serious, telling the media on Friday that “Alex is not too bad. He is a question mark for the weekend - let's see where he is.” In the end, Isak was unable to play against Brentford, but like Gravenberch could still be involved in some capacity this week.
First-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker, meanwhile, remains out for at least two weeks due to a thigh injury. Slot has confirmed that the Brazilian has yet to return to training and the away match against Manchester City on 9 November is likely to be the earliest possible return date.
There’s less clarity on when Liverpool may be able to call upon full-back Jeremie Frimpong again. The summer signing is “not in a good place,” according to Slot, and rehabilitation from a hamstring injury is “going to take a while.” A grade two hamstring tear would typically take four weeks to heal up, suggesting that Frimpong will return in late November, but the club have not confirmed the precise diagnosis.
The other player who will be absent for Liverpool this week is centre-half Giovanni Leoni, who is expected to miss the rest of the 2025/26 season with a ruptured ACL.
