'Get It Done' 'We Need Him And He Needs Us' Liverpool Fans React To Latest Romano Transfer Update

Liverpool are “still” in the race to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking on his ‘Here We Go’ podcast, Romano said that a free transfer next summer is the most likely possibility, with the Reds among six teams in the frame to secure the defender’s signature:

“Liverpool [are] still there after what happened on Deadline Day. Liverpool remain in the list of clubs interested in the player. There is also interest from more clubs, including Tottenham, Man City, including the Spanish giants [Barcelona and Real Madrid] for sure and also Bayern.”

“Bayern also had contacts with people close to the player, so it’s a big race for Marc Guehi. What I can guarantee is that the player is starting to explore these possibilities. He’s listening to proposals, listening to contract ideas, but also projects.”

Fans on X are hoping Guehi picks the Reds, having come so close to making the switch to Anfield in the summer:

Liverpool need centre-back reinforcements

Giovanni Leoni’s ACL injury has led many to call for the Premier League champions to make a move during the January transfer window.

With Ibrahima Konate also having not signed a contract extension, the need for a new centre-half could become even greater, but from the sound of things, Guehi is only an option for the summer at this stage.

Alternatives to Guehi are being considered

As Romano mentions, the Merseysiders are now just one of several teams competing for the England international’s services.

If they do end up missing out on Guehi then moves for other centre-halves will be explored. Dayot Upamecano’s contract at Bayern also expires at the end of the season and reports in Germany suggest that Arne Slot’s side are in the mix to snap up the Frenchman if he leaves the Allianz Arena next year.
