Frank Lampard has indeed hinted that he is not looking to sign Patrick Bamford for Coventry City, but that the striker is merely training with the Sky Blues as a favour until he finds a new club.
Bamford has not found new employers since agreeing to terminate his Leeds United contract 10 months early in August, having been told by Daniel Farke on the second day of pre-season that he was not part of his Premier League plans.
The 32-year-old was reportedly closing in on a move to Getafe but later claims in the Spanish press outlined that there had been a hiccup. And Bamford's appearance at Coventry suggests these reports were accurate.
Our sister site, the Coventry Telegraph, revealed last week that Championship leaders were not looking to sign Bamford and manager Lampard confirmed this after his team’s 3-1 win over Watford on Saturday.
Asked about the attacker’s presence at Coventry’s training ground, Lampard replied: “Yeah, I guess you could call it doing him a favour. I know Patrick well and he hasn’t got a club. He’s training with us.
“I’m very happy, he’s a good lad, Patrick. He’s very easy. I know the conclusions everyone’s going to get to but he’s just training with us.”
Bamford and Lampard briefly spent time together at Chelsea, when the former joined the Blues in 2012. Lampard spent two more years at Stamford Bridge as Bamford spent several loan spells away.

Explaining the decision to mutually agree to terminate Bamford's contract early, Leeds managing director Robbie Evans said: "Daniel made clear early in camp that Pat was not in his primary plans for the squad, and, at that point, it felt fairest to Pat and to the club that he be let free to go and find his next stop on his own.
"We worked to get a mutual termination done that allows him that freedom. We love Pat, a club legend who helped us get promoted twice, but at that point in time, it was the fairest thing for everyone involved to give him the freedom to go and find his next gig on his own."
