Portuguese media rave about Geovany Quenda as Chelsea youngster takes just 20 minutes to show his class

Chelsea supporters are very excited by the prospect of Geovany Quenda joining the club, and he needed just 20 minutes in Sporting’s latest game to show them what he’s all about.

Quenda is set to join the Blues at the end of the season, adding to the already impressive list of youngsters they have assembled that includes Estevao Willian and Andrey Santos.

Quenda was recently nominated for the Golden Boy award, and until he makes the switch to Stamford Bridge he will continue being a key member of the Sporting squad in both the league and Champions League.

Chelsea wonderkid Geovany Quenda stars in 20-minute cameo

He was handed a rest from the starting side for their fixture against Tondela at the weekend, however he still made his mark with a cameo appearance off the bench.

The winger headed home in the final moments to cap off a 3-0 win away from home, and Portuguese media were very impressed with what they saw from the teenager.

A Bola said: “Just over 20 minutes on the pitch. He tried several times to create a 1-on-1, which he excels at, and scored the third goal with a header. There was also a good opening for Fresneda to create some danger on the right.”

It was actually the first time he had found the net in the league this season, although he is already off the mark in Europe. He found the net against Kairat Almaty, the side of fellow future Chelsea star Dastan Satpaev.

The position which Quenda will play for Chelsea

The Blues captured the services of Quenda ahead of Premier League rivals Manchester United, with a role as a wing-back in Ruben Amorim’s system being discussed as a potential option.

However, The Chelsea Chronicle understands that Quenda is being signed as a winger, meaning the competition for those two spots on the pitch is set to further increase.

As well as Estevao, Alejandro Garnacho, Jamie Gittens and Pedro Neto are all competing for spots in the starting XI right now.

Chelsea parted ways with Noni Madueke last season, and it could be the case that another big sale in the position is needed next summer if Quenda is deemed ready to compete at Stamford Bridge.
