**In March of this year, Newcastle United lifted a major domestic trophy for the first time in 70 years, ending decades of agony and underachievement.**
Much like the opening of this article, though, it won't stop that statistic being rolled out within seconds of the kick-off of any cup game involving Newcastle; it's just that the wording will have changed slightly.
Perhaps lifting a second trophy will finally end that line of commentary, as winning just becomes the norm.
If Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes gets his way, then we won't have to wait too long to find out.

It can happen again
Bruno Guimaraes wants to lift the Carabao Cup again this season
---------------------------------------------------------------
The Brazilian was speaking to [The Northern Echo](https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/25572947.bruno-guimaraes-carabao-cup-vow-newcastle-united-supporters-will-love/) ahead of Wednesday's Carabao Cup clash with Tottenham Hotspur, who had an impressive win at Everton on Sunday. The Newcastle captain isn't putting any less emphasis on the Carabao Cup this season, despite having the Champions League to contend with as well.
> “It means a lot. We want to keep making history.“We went 70 years without a win, but we can make it two in two. It's a big possibility, a big opportunity, so we don't want to miss it.“It’s going to be a big game for us and we hope we're going to be ready for taking advantage in the game.

> “It’s a big moment, and even more because we won last season. We want to do it again, keep making history, against a great and very focused team.”
Wednesday's game is too close to call

A home tie is always welcome for the Magpies, but being drawn against Premier League opposition seems to be the trade-off as Newcastle once again look like they'll have to take the hard route to the final.
Spurs will no doubt be buzzing after their 3-0 win at the Hill Dickinson Stadium yesterday, and although Newcastle won against Fulham, their performance at times left a lot to be desired.
We expect Eddie Howe will make some big changes, too, so hopefully, Thomas Frank will be doing the same with his Spurs side.
