Arsenal are looking like clear favourites to win the Premier League title this season.

Crucially, though, Arsenal are six points ahead of Manchester City at this still early stage, and that is the margin they will be hoping to maintain an extend, while Liverpool have fallen away after four straight defeats in the Premier League.

At this point, we are still early in the season, and there will likely be a time when Arsenal have a wobble of their own, but there is no doubting that the Gunners are best set up for a title given the depth they now have in their squad. Discussing the North London side’s title hopes on The Gary Neville Podcast, Neville said “This has got to be them, hasn’t it? This has got to be their year. They’re not going to have to go and get 100 points. Mid-80s, high 80s will win them this title, and they can do that.”

He added: “They don’t need to do anything spectacular here. Just keep doing what you do, and you will win this league. It’s yours to win. This is your title, Arsenal.”

Excitement is building around Arsenal, but the past few seasons will teach them that they need to remain level-headed because of the twists and turns of the Premier League. Asked about the gap over City, Arteta said after the Palace win: “We are where we are. It’s a credit to us because we’ve been very consistent, but knowing the difficulty of every match as well. It is early, so it doesn’t mean anything other than let’s keep doing a lot of things that we’re doing really well, but there are things to improve to give us better margins as well.”

Asked if he knew City were losing during the game, he added: “No, I wasn’t aware. I just found out at the end of the game. I think most of the players as well, they aren’t allowed their phones at half-time, so hopefully they didn’t know about it, but maybe through the staff. But I think it was a really positive weekend for us, especially because we did what we had to do and then it shows the difficulty of the league, and how complicated it is to win these games.”

Arsenal’s next league games come against Burnley, Sunderland and Tottenham, and interestingly the latter two are both in the top four currently, so the Gunners will be tested in their bid to remain in form.
