Myles Garrett’s historic 5-sack showcase not enough as Browns suffer heartbreaking 19-point loss

Myles Garrett reached another milestone in his dominant career on Sunday, becoming the first player in NFL history to record five sacks in a game and still lose by more than three points.

Despite the All-Pro defensive end’s relentless effort, the Cleveland Browns fell 32–13 to the New England Patriots, marking their 12th consecutive road defeat.

Garrett set a new personal mark for the Cleveland Browns with five sacks totaling 33 yards lost and one forced fumble. Even as New England drained the final minutes, his determination to keep battling never wavered.

“I don’t care how much time is on the clock: If there’s a chance we can win, I want to be a part of that,” he said. “I hate that kind of inevitability and not being able to do anything about it. Because I want to win.”

Garrett now has 10 sacks this season, giving him eight straight years with double-digit totals. His 112.5 career sacks surpass Reggie White’s 108 for the most before age 30.

He became just the 20th player since 1982 to notch at least five sacks in a single game — and only the fourth to have that kind of outing end in a loss.

“I would throw the whole performance away for a win,” Garrett said after the loss.

Patriots rookie tested by Garrett’s power and precision

New England head coach Mike Vrabel praised Garrett’s performance, calling it a nightmare for blockers.

“Committing two people to him, and him still affecting the quarterback, is obviously impressive,” Vrabel said. “Just size, speed, athleticism ... it’s impressive, and it’s hard.”

The Browns’ defense couldn’t overcome their offensive struggles, as the team entered the bye week at 2–6 and last in the AFC North. Garrett urged his teammates not to give up:

“Keep your head up. We’ve just got to find something, some kind of remedy for this,” he said.

Patriots rookie tackle Will Campbell, a first-round pick, was the main target of Garrett’s attacks. Garrett studied Campbell’s past matchups to exploit weaknesses.

“He was able to be pretty firm in his stance and keep me from knocking him back,” Garrett said. “I watched a lot of tape of him versus Will Anderson... I had to take some things out of his book and work them into mine to have success.”

Despite the lopsided result, Garrett’s showing reinforced why he remains one of football’s most feared defenders.
