Leeds United
Leeds United signed Dominic Calvert-Lewin during the summer. But the player has not fired as expected with a previously linked player performing much better. Did Leeds miss a trick on that transfer?
Calvert-Lewin decided to move on from Everton after giving nine years to the club. Major injuries had also lowered his stock. It was seen as a mutually beneficial decision. For Leeds it was a transfer which came with no fees.

Troy Parrott could have possibly joined The Whites in the summer. His current club AZ Alkmaar wanted a £25m fee for the Irish lad. But Leeds ruled out the amount as astronomical. And now they maybe regretting it.
The 23-year old had several loan spells before he got his breakthrough in the Netherlands. A successful loan spell at Excelsior Rotterdam was followed by his eventual transfer to a Dutch giant. AZ Alkmaar signed the Tottenham player on a reported £6.7m transfer.
Scoring 20 in 47 appearances in 2024/25, he has only gotten better. Troy has found the net 13 times this season in just 11 games. Needless to say he is striking it rich. In comparison, Calvert-Lewin has found the net just once in his eight appearances for Leeds.
A £25m fee sounds like a bargain now. Any club wanting him will surely have to pay much higher than that number.
An upgrade on Joel Piroe
Parrott’s arrival wouldn’t have made Calvert-Lewin redundant though. The Irishman has a vastly different playing style. While the former Everton man is good in the air and holding the ball. He also brings others into play.
Meanwhile the Alkmaar man builds-up play by dropping deep and helping out his teammates. He had five assists to his name last term and already two this season.
Parrott’s versatility makes him a manager’s dream who can possibly rotate and deploy him in the no.10 position.
There are talks of Piroe being on the verge of exit. Parrott can also fit right in. But it will be far tougher negotiation this time around. Alkmaar will have all the power on the table.
And even if the Whites go for him, no deal will be possible until the end of the season. The Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules will be on Leeds minds before any prospective transfer.
