Former NFL superstar arrested in Texas on multiple charges

SUGAR LAND, Texas — Former NFL running back Adrian Peterson was arrested Sunday on DWI and weapons charges.

KHOU Channel 11 reports Peterson was taken into custody at about 9:30 a.m. Police declined to release additional details, KHOU reports.

Fort Bend County jail records show Peterson, 40, was charged by Sugar Land police with driving while intoxicated and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

It is the second time Peterson has been arrested this year on drunken driving charges. In April, he was arrested in Minneapolis, Minnesota, after he was seen driving an Audi Q5 at 83 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone.

Peterson has been involved in a number of incidents over the years, including domestic violence, child abuse and financial issues.

He is considered one of the best running backs in NFL history, gaining 14,918 yards in his 15-year career, the fifth most all-time. He ran for 120 touchdowns and had another six receiving.

He was a four-time All-Pro, made seven Pro Bowls and was the league MVP in 2012. He spent more than 10 seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, but also played for New Orleans, Arizona, Washington, Detroit, Tennessee and Seattle.
