Mohamed Salah’s goal vs Brentford may have just proved Alan Shearer absolutely right - opinion

Mohamed Salah has been questioned a lot so far at the start of the season.

The Reds look a bit shellshocked right now as four Premier League losses on the bounce have all but ended their title defence as early as October.

Performances have simply not been good enough, both as a whole and individually, with Salah one player who has been under the spotlight.

The Egyptian seems to have lost all confidence for one reason or another, although he managed to score a brilliant goal against Brentford, even if it did count for nothing in the end.

Alan Shearer was just one person who has been concerned by his form, but he has always backed him to come back, with his comments from the other day looking like they might be proven right.

Alan Shearer believes that Mohamed Salah is too good not to bounce back

Ahead of the Brentford game, Salah had just been dropped midweek after really struggling to find any sort of form.

Many fans also suggested that he would be benched again for Saturday night, although Arne Slot put him straight back in.

He certainly had a poor game overall, but he still managed to get on the scoresheet, with his confidence looking like it was back towards the latter stages of the match.

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES

Shearer is one person who will not be surprised as before the match he backed Salah to come back, and the winger has proven why the former striker was absolutely right.

“When you are not playing well, as he hasn’t been and he has not been scoring goals and Liverpool have not been getting the results, a manager has every right, no matter how big you are, to leave you out,” Shearer told BBC Sport.

“If he leaves you out of the team and they get a really impressive performance and result, he then has a decision to make.

“He is going through a bad time. He is a quality player. His time will come again, no doubt about it. Good players are not down for long. It’s how you get through that and I’m sure Salah will, he is too good not to.”

Salah then did exactly that by scoring, with this, hopefully, the start of a big season.

Liverpool need Mohamed Salah back to his best

Although Liverpool have been excellent for a number of years, they have still relied fairly heavily on Salah’s goals.

So now that everyone seems to be struggling, he is needed more than ever, with a moment of magic something that could single-handedly get them over the line.

The promising sign for fans is that he has been getting chances, especially when cutting inside on his left foot, he just has not been able to take them just yet.

However, a little bit of confidence is what he might need for the ball to nestle into the top corner, with his strike against Brentford potentially giving him just that.
