Hurzeler spells out his plan for Albion teen ruled out of World Cup

But he looks forward to seeing the West Sussex teen back on the pitch.

Howell has been withdrawn from the England under-17s squad for next month’s World Cup due to a back issue.

His club-mate Freddie Simmonds will be part of the group in Qatar.

Howell scored in Albion’s first two Carabao Cup ties, scoring his first senior goal in the 6-0 win at Barnsley.

He has not played since the under-21s’ 3-3 draw at West Ham four weeks ago.

Head coach Hurzeler said: “Harry Howell had like a small issue with his back, so we have to be patient with him because he came from a different environment.

“He came from a different intensity to the first-team environment with different demands.

“And I think, especially for young bodies, it's very important to be careful with the adaptation.

“So, in some moments, it's important to take a step back, to make then in the future two steps forwards.

“I think therefore we have to be patient at the moment of him. We don't have to force it.

“We know that he's a great talent with great skills. He's the future for this club.

“But, at the moment, we have to very patient with his adaptation, especially regarding his body.

“And then I'm sure in the future, we will see him on the pitch.”

Howell has been used wide on the right but could develop into a No.10 as he progresses.
